Gynecomastia, or hypertrophy of the breast, is the term used to describe male breast overdevelopment. Gynecomastia is common during puberty, adolescence, or early childhood. Once the hormone levels stabilize, it goes away on its own. Gynecomastia can also affect adult men, and it frequently results in eating disorders, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. Male breast reduction in Delhi or gynecomastia surgery at the Aestiva Clinic can be used to address these issues.

Types of Gynecomastia

  1. Adolescent Gynecomastia

Due to temporary relative imbalances between androgens and estrogens, this type of gynecomastia develops during puberty. Adolescent gynecomastia typically goes away on its own, but surgery is an option if it lasts for more than two years.

  1. Adult or Senescent Gynecomastia

This type of gynecomastia affects elderly patients and can be brought on by obesity, use of numerous etiologic drugs, poor diet, frequent smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption. The best option for removing glandular tissue overgrowth is surgical excision.

  1. Pseudo Gynecomastia

Pseudogynecomastia is the term for the condition where male breast enlargement increases as a result of excessive fat deposition.

Grades of Gynecomastia

According to the degree of gland enlargement and extra skin, there are four grades of gynecomastia.

Grade 1: Small breast enlargement with no extra skin

Grade 2: Moderate breast enhancement with no extra skin

Grade 3: Moderate breast enhancement with extra skin

Grade 4: Significant breast enlargement with extra skin

Patients with Grades 1 and 2 don't need skin excision because liposuction can only make the chest look better by getting rid of extra fat. Patients with Grade 3 and 4 gynecomastia may need liposuction and skin excision.

Treatment of Gynecomastia

The physiological, or pubertal gynecomastia disappears on its own. Gynecomastia must be stopped if it is brought on by taking steroids and prescription medications.

Gynecomastia can be treated with either liposuction or excision. The best treatment method is chosen for gynecomastia depending on its type and severity. If necessary, both methods can occasionally be applied simultaneously. The most effective method for removing excess chest fat is liposuction. Excision, on the other hand, is used to remove the extra breast tissue. Gynecomastia surgery does not require extensive incisions. The stitches are taken out a week after the surgery. Surgery for gynecomastia may help to improve self-esteem and restore the chest's shape. Depending on the procedure, surgery can last up to an hour. It takes 3–4 weeks to recover.
