This article is a guide for girls who want to learn skiing for the first time. The author shares her experience and provides tips on skiing skills, hiring a coach, choosing ski equipment, and developing a study program. The author emphasizes the importance of understanding the "truth

When I think back to the beginning of my learning phase to find some tutorials for girls on the Internet, I basically saw all of you guys writing martial arts secrets to teach the main moves, from a girl's point of view to raise doubts and learning methods seem to be difficult to search for. So I would like to put some of my experience in learning and practicing skiing here, especially to share with like-minded girls like me, together with faster progress and less detours.
I'm definitely not an advanced skier, but after navigating all the trails at Niseko Village and Grand Hirafu this winter, my instructor was very pleased to confirm that I had reached an intermediate to advanced level.

Beginner's literacy area

Many friends think that the skiers should be like the contestants seen on TV flying back and forth from side to side straight down the mountain. In fact, friends who have been on snowy mountains will find that most skiers, are going down the mountain on an S-shaped route at medium speed, and not like driving a race car who is fast and who is great. But the principle does have similarities with driving, that is, the need to understand the different speed changes before, during and after the turn, and thus control of the stability of each turn to complete a variety of advanced movements.
For me, the fun of skiing is the sense of accomplishment of handling different movements and navigating different environments, and the feeling of freedom like learning to fly.

It's really easy to get injured if you don't know anything about skiing skills, and I think there are two reasons for that.
1. The first kind, and personal learning habits have a relationship. People who are in a hurry like a poke, but the nature of skiing and ball sports are different, for example, learning to play badminton, no patience to practice kickoffs, it is very much like a direct snap, but this at most affects the level, no harm. But skiing is different, the underestimation of the snow environment and the overestimation of self-capacity is very dangerous.

2.The second kind is not to understand the "truth" of skiing. I also know a lot of friends, a strong rush down the mountain, fractures, lumbar disc out of the case of many. They are not people who are in a hurry, but they think that skiing is to rush down the mountain, just like the above-mentioned, watching too much TV, do not know that slowing down and stability is the key. I also belonged to this kind at the beginning, I remember the first time I went skiing with my family to the German Zug peak. I knew nothing about skiing and took the lift directly to the top of the mountain. After putting on the double board, I realized that the original and the principle of skating as a child is completely different, on the flat ground is not skiing

So I suggest that beginners must hire a coach, which can save a lot of time to figure out and detours. In particular , girls' physical fitness and control force are not as good as boys. Hiring a coach can quickly understand the principle of skiing and know the necessary safety precautions, correct preconceived misconceptions, master the basic skills of how to control speed, how to fall, how to get up and so on.

Beginner-intermediate level snowboarding. The main movements are: plow (snow plunge), parallel (parallel), point poles (pole planting), and the preliminary carabiners (carving).

Technology has not kept up, the equipment can not be missing. Good skiing equipment gives us a sense of security, in addition to the promotion of self-confidence. Personal advice, determined to learn to ski girls or to buy their own pair of ski caps (helmet) and ski goggles (goggle).Suitable for their own face type of ski cap and ski goggles is very important, in addition to because the photo looks good, wears warm (I am very afraid of cold), and can protect safety. For example, in Japan's different snowy mountains and woods, the weather environment changes a lot, cloudy day vision is unclear, suddenly under a snowstorm, or the hot sun snow is reflective, the lens has the function of improving clarity, in addition to unsuitable ski goggles entering the water, or fogging.
As for the skis and ski shoes, this will vary from person to person. From the cost aspect, if you plan to long-term skiing friends, buy your own set of snow equipment more cost-effective, but girls are not strong, originally more luggage, but also to carry a large bag of snow equipment is really very inconvenient. And the level of skill is different, the requirements of snowboarding are also very different. I personally have not bought my own skis yet, mainly because I want to wait until the technology is stable, choose the intermediate level of the snowboard more once and for all.
Skis and boots can be rented additionally. Here is a special reminder that there are two kinds of snow equipment rental: standard and premium. Don't think that premium is lighter and better quality like badminton racket. Premium is a wider and longer board, mainly for intermediate and advanced levels. I once ignorantly rented a premium and then "rolled" from the top to the bottom of the mountain in Hakuba.

Suggestions for a study program for beginners

Learning from zero to beginner to intermediate can be divided into three stages: flat stand and move - plow skiing - parallel turns. If the perception is higher, 5 days under the sky can reach the junior level

1. Have an instructor (private or group learning is fine) for 1 day to learn the principles of skiing, plow turns, and controlling speed.
2. 1-2 days of practice on your own, including about 1 day of plowing on the beginner piste and then try to practice plowing on the intermediate piste.
3. 1 day with an instructor (private or group learning is fine) to learn parallel turns.
4. Practice on your own for 1 day, feel your comprehension, you will encounter a lot of do not understand and can not do, write down all the problems.
5. Have a one-on-one coach for 1-2 days, ask him for advice about the plow and parallel skating problems you encounter when practicing on your own. Also, let the instructor accompany you to experience the different difficult trails in the snow park, then you will have a good idea of the environment of the trails when you practice on your own.
  1. 6. After that, it is recommended to practice on your own. Different movements may vary from person to person. You need to repeatedly practice on your own to experience some specific points. You can find some articles and videos on the Internet to see if you really encounter technical bottlenecks and then ask a coach.

Beginner skiing tips

A few key technical points that I have learned on my own (coaches may not tell you).
1. the coach said the center of gravity forward, but why do I always sit backwards? Girls are timid and inertial to sit backwards. Remember that the calves are always close to the tongue of the shoe, and the buttocks should be tightened from the beginning to the end (this action is just the opposite of playing golf), which can help the center of gravity to lean forward. When we feel like we're about to fall, we need to change our habits of thought and consciously lift our hips upward so that our bodies will be stable and come back.
2. other people easily press the snowboard to slow down, but I feel that the snowboard always drift? The key to controlling the plow skiing is to put the whole body's weight on the board when you want to slow down, using the inner edge of the snowboard and the friction of the snow to slow down. But girls' leg strength is poor, and will not force. We can tighten the ten toes, and then tighten the buttocks. You can achieve the effect of the weight downward pressure board.
  1. 3. fell on the slope snowshoes fell can not always put on? Have to put two snowboards parallel to the horizon (perpendicular to the fall line), then first wear the snowboard close to the mountain (such as the right foot), then wear the right foot of the snowboard tilt, use the right snowboard sideboard blade stuck in the snow, while using the ski poles fight to support the body, and then wear the left foot.

Warm Tips

Most girls in learning competitive movements, usually follow the rules, frankly speaking there is no athletic cells, the mind will only be good to remember the coach said the action, and neglect to think about the principle of action and self-experience. In these cases, it is easy to be overly rigid and fall down nervously. What is recommended here is not to let the coach pull the rhythm of our practice. For example, after watching the coach demonstrate his "standard" movements, we should go back to our own rhythm, and if we feel less smooth, we should immediately use the plow brake, instead of continuing a dangerous movement when we obviously feel very unpleasant. Too often, the adult mind is thinking about the action and forgetting about the immediate reaction.

Here, by the way, I would like to add the importance of practicing ploughing in intermediate runs. Since intermediate trails require different ski speeds and turn control requirements, it is recommended that no matter how much you want to practice parallel skiing as soon as possible, you also need to spend some time practicing the basics of plow braking to get a feel for the technical essentials of plowing on steeper trails. Proficiency in the plow will help us in intermediate practice afterwards, in any panic situation or very uncertain moment, immediately use the plow brake, so that the heart is much more solid ~

Beginning to learn to ski girls will probably feel, ski a little feel very tired, and then began to be unable to control the double board, followed by non-stop falls and injuries.

It is recommended that you can increase your leg strength with proper fitness. After working out for leg and hip strength, I found that skiing acceptance and perception were greatly enhanced, and the level of skiing improved by leaps and bounds.
