Franklin Square Gallery

Many see Franklin Square Gallery as more than just your typical art gallery; they see it as a place where you can learn about art and become involved in the art world. Over one hundred local and regional artists from Southeastern North Carolina are featured in a show of their original works, which includes original paintings, prints, sculptures, and pottery that are clearly influenced by the untamed Cape Fear environment. And because Franklin Square Gallery is a community, it also hosts an annual spring art show where both gallery members and local guest artists exhibit brand-new, original works! From Monday through Saturday, visit the gallery every 10 am to 5 pm. Make sure you visit during the proper month since they are only open from March to December 24.

Old Brunswick County Jail Museum

You can travel back in time to experience 20th-century law enforcement at the Old Brunswick County Jail. It was constructed in 1904 and operated for more than 70 years as the main detention facility for the community.

It is a brick multi-story structure, and each cell has four bunk beds, a steel wash basin, and a commodity inside. As you walk around the jail, you'll see some original graffiti and some writings by the inmates. You will see the jailer and his family's living space downstairs, which includes a bed, some toys, a study table, and other household needs. Seeing this will give you goosebumps and make you imagine how their lives must have been like in the past, raising a family while residing just one floor below where the prisoners are.
